Supported formats
The video, audio and log formats BEATFORGE reads, what it exports, and the systems it runs on.
System
BEATFORGE runs on Windows and macOS. Everything happens on your own computer: no account, no internet connection, and nothing uploaded.
Video
| Kind | Supported |
|---|---|
| Files | MP4, MOV and MXF |
| Codecs | H.264, H.265, ProRes and DNxHR |
That covers what nearly every cinema camera, action camera and phone records, and the intermediates editors transcode to. Other containers, such as MTS, may import, but MP4, MOV and MXF are what BEATFORGE is made and tested for. If a camera records something else, convert its files to one of them first.
Cameras at different frame rates can be mixed in one project. Each keeps its own frame rate through to the export.
Audio
| Files | |
|---|---|
| Uncompressed | WAV, BWF (Broadcast WAV), W64, AIFF, CAF |
| Lossless | FLAC |
| Compressed | MP3, AAC, M4A, OGG, Opus, WMA, MP2, AC3, DTS |
A multitrack recorder that splits long recordings across several files is recognised, and its files are grouped into takes.
Camera RAW
Camera RAW is not supported yet. Support for more formats may follow. For now, BEATFORGE lists RAW files at import with what to do, rather than skipping them silently.
| Format | What to do |
|---|---|
| Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) | Transcode to ProRes or DNxHR, or record ProRes. |
| REDCODE RAW (R3D) | Export ProRes or DNxHR from REDCINE-X, or use the camera’s ProRes proxies. |
| ARRIRAW (ARI, ARX) | Transcode to ProRes or DNxHR. |
| Canon Cinema RAW Light (CRM) | Transcode to ProRes or DNxHR with Canon’s software. |
| Phantom Cine | Transcode to ProRes or DNxHR. |
| CinemaDNG | Transcode to ProRes or DNxHR, with sound. |
