    Your first edit

From an empty project to a finished multicam timeline in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, in ten steps.

This is the whole journey once, start to finish. Every step links to the page that covers it in depth. A project moves left to right through six workspaces along the top of the window, and Ctrl1 to Ctrl6 jump straight to each one.

    Before you start

Copy the night’s footage to one folder, with a subfolder per camera and one for your clean audio. Preparing a shoot shows a layout that works well.

    The ten steps

    1. Create a project. BEATFORGE opens on the project launcher. Choose NEW PROJECT and pick where the .beatforge file lives. It is saved straight away, so autosaves have somewhere to go from the start.
    2. Import the shoot. On MEDIA, choose IMPORT MEDIA… and pick the shoot folder, or drag the folder onto the media pool. Each subfolder becomes a source.
    3. Check the sources. Give each camera a role, such as Wide or Crowd, and set your desk or front-of-house recording to Clean feed. The square in the REF column marks the audio everything will be synced to. Media
    4. Sync. On SYNC, press SYNC ALL SOURCES. The dashboard shows each camera landing. Press APPLY & CONTINUE when it is done, and look at anything marked Review. Sync
    5. Analyse the music. On GRID, press ANALYSE REFERENCE. BEATFORGE finds the tempo, the bars, the sections and every build and drop. Grid
    6. Check the grid. Press U to visit any stretch the analysis was unsure of. If a record starts off the count, put the playhead on its first downbeat and press BAR 1 STARTS HERE.
    7. Generate the cut. On EDIT, press GENERATE CUT. Adjust the pacing dials and camera weights in the settings, then press REGENERATE CUT until it feels right. The cut
    8. Refine by hand. Drag cut points, reroll a stretch with R , lock the shots you love with CtrlL , or record your own switches with the multicam switcher. Editing by hand
    9. Mix the sound. On AUDIO, balance the room microphones against the clean feed. Try AUTO on each camera’s track delay. Audio
    10. Deliver. On DELIVER, press PREMIERE PROJECT… for a Premiere Pro project, or CUT + MASTER MIX for one sequence with the mix rendered to WAV. Deliver

    If something looks wrong

A workspace you are not ready for yet still opens. It tells you what it needs and offers the button that gets you there. Failures are kept in the session log, CtrlShiftL , so a message that scrolled past is never lost. Troubleshooting covers the common cases.
